Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by David L — 13 Jul 2013
Not one I would have instantly been drawn to but not a bad short story to entertain us with (if that's the right word). We pick up the film in the aftermath of an accident which has seen the death of a couples 4-year old son.
Unable to deal with the trauma in the same manner we watch as husband and wife argue over the best way to deal with the emotional scars - Do they remove all existence of having a child, and sell their home, or do they keep all the memories of the four years they were blessed with?! We live through the ups and downs as both parties take comfort in the arms of others, including family, members of a support group, and the teenage killer of their son himself.
It strikes me as being a more female orientated movie, and would no doubt be quite captivating for anyone who has had the discomfort of living through such an event. On this basis, I thankfully couldn't relate to it, but did enjoy the psychological storyline behind it all.
It's quite slow moving, and has very little action (including not actually seeing the accident, or the son in general), but focuses on entertaining us through an emotional route. I'd say it's a flick to be viewed once only, as I couldn't see much joy arising from a repeat viewing, but that's not to take anything away from the acting, and powerful message that this puts across.
