Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Chiranjeev S — 22 Feb 2013
...powerful film with brilliant and realistic performances from the lead roles, Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. A couple are together, but at the same time are separately trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of their 4 year old son.
Becca Corbett (Kidman) appears to be finding the grieving harder than her husband Howie (Eckhart). As the film moves on, it emerges that Howie is finding the process equally hard. Despite all the efforts of Howie, Becca stays out of reach in her grieving, refusing to response to any help.
Then Becca, by chance, encounters the young driver (Miles Teller) involved in the fatal accident that took her son, and somehow finds that the ensuing meetings with him begin to offer some salvation. Howie, in contrast, begins to believe that his only outlet is through another woman (Sandra Ho).
However, through all the heartache and tears, the couple remain in love, despite being tested on every front. Dianne Wiest (Becca's mother) and Tammy Blanchard (Becca's sister) provide strong support roles, and it is a powerful, tearful yet hopeful film.
Excellent.
