Review of Raavanan (2010) by Selva K — 25 Jun 2010
The much awaited Mani Ratnam movie of the year has arrived. AND.. its worth your wait. When was the last time you saw a Mani Ratnam Cinema and felt untouched? Assuming the answer to be 'no way', I'd say 'the same rule holds here'. Raavanan - The Epic Ramayanam gets a celluloid status with much stress on the romance part.
To start off - First and foremost Credit is taken by the cinematographers, Santhosh Sivan and Manikandan. Each and every Frame is enriched with freshness, nature and plush greenery. Simply Irresistible.
Next up - A.R.Rahman. The magician does his magic yet again. The rare combo of rich cinematography and soothing Background score is sort of a rare experience (you may actually feel the chill) and Raavanan is on the 'X'.
The star cast - India's Best Lead Lady has just proved why she is so. Not many persons can actually make a presence felt. For that matter, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is way over the top. No wonder they said 'Elegance is her Forte'. Vikram, with a career furnished with varied characters and critically acclaimed performances, gets his fair share here as Veera. The climax is the proof.
Credits to Suhasini for the apt and crispy dialogs.
Bottomline: Spare the abruptness at places. This movie is COOL (literally and figuratively)!
