Review of Raavanan (2010) by Adnan A — 04 Sep 2010
Mani Ratnam put a great deal of effort with his camera-work, aided by beautiful locations. And that is certainly the highlight of the movie. But if he could have focussed a little more on the script and pacing this could have been such a good movie. After a nice start it becomes extremely laborious, the story goes nowhere; as if all the director cared about was to look for the next gorgeous shot. Sure he seems to put in effort at the end to give the movie an unpredictable turn; but it just doesnt work.
Also, the movie was a let-down in terms of acting. Abhishek simply over-acted in most of his scenes and Ashwariya was mostly annoying. And the movie's best song, Ranjha, was used poorly; it would've been better had they not used it at all.
Overall, despite the nice visuals, Raavan is another disappointment.
