Review of Raajneeti (2010) by Ritwik G — 07 Jun 2010
Strewn with multiple cliches tho' it was, Raajneeti was a good watch, and definitely one of the better movies of 2010. I'm no Patekar fanatic, but he was definitely the best thing about the movie- his meticulous mischievous malice was delectable.
All the other actors, especially Rampal, were pretty great too, but the cinematography was bland and repetitive with too many panoramic shots. Nasseruddin Shah in his bit role dazzled as usual, as did Shruti Seth(tho unconvincing as a rural party-worker), and Sarah Thompson.
Katrina Kaif was okay for her five-scene role, and she really did do justice to her 'lengthy-emotionally-driven' speech. Ranbir, the prince of Bollywood, was convincing as the cradled kid of the Pratap family, who doesnt hesitate to plunge into the fire when it's his turn to protect the dignity of his family.
I could not idealistically agree with what came of many of the characters, but I enjoyed the movie nevertheless.
