Review of Raajneeti (2010) by Tawseef R — 06 Jul 2010
Brief: Raajneeti is a thoroughly premature product, which should have stayed inside the editor's room for quite some time. Instead it is pulled out in advance undeveloped and weak.
Long: Besides that, it employs tremendous amounts of Pseudo-realism, which has become an ugly culture in many Bwood movies these days. Whether the maker's do it consciously or not is out of my league to predict, but either way its quite a nuisance to deal with for us cerebral audience. This movie is NOT for the weary kind who are simply fatigued and exhausted watching the same old stories of twisted minds in Indian politics. The presence of miniature details surrounding the characters and their every move only candidly implies the movie maker's struggle to bring his product as close to life as possible- but they aren't careful enough to treat the finished product to make sure they eliminate things that counter-attack the "real" stuff they oh-so-neatly put in. What's worse is they do not entirely realize that "realism" alone does NOT decide the fate of the movie. And more importantly it should stay sincere to it's genre. Raajneeti is in no man's land. Its neither entirely fiction nor anywhere close to reality. It is a thoroughly pre-mature product, which could have stayed inside the editor's womb at least for a good 3 months. It just seems like the makers never know if their creation is ready to be shown to the world or not and this anxiety and excitement to release an unfinished product has ruined all their efforts. Raajneeti could have been so much better because I see so much potential in what it tried to achieve but failed. Three cheers to some fantastic acting by Ranbir and Arjun. They are the only good thing about this film.
