Review of Quiz Show (1994) by Colin A — 20 Apr 2010
Very good movie. It contains a number of interesting perspectives on honesty, fame, show business, corporate power, money, legacy, class, anti-Semitism, and many other topics that define us as a society.
It is also enhanced by great casting and a well-written script. When I first heard about this picture, I thought it was a little weird how they made such a big deal about a game-show being rigged, which apparently were the same thoughts as some of the characters.
However, I now understand the deeper point that the film meant to articulate:how people will try to justify their actions even when they know they are wrong, and how others will try to cover for them in order to achieve their own desires.
The fact that I actually had to see the movie to really understand why these real-life events in the 1950s were such a big deal show how far our society has regressed: we have come to accept dishonest and manipulation.
The end of the film alludes to this fact in a way that is both accurate yet mildly depressing. Anyway, I definitely recommend it.
