Review of Quiz Show (1994) by Robert R — 19 Dec 2011
Great acting. Great storyline. Great film. You can't say 'nay' to a film starring Ralph Fiennes, Rob Morrow, and John Turturro. They are some of the few truly talented actors that we have today.
The Quiz Show accurately depicts life in the 50's, and how popular one could get off of television, being that there were so few channels. When everyone in the country is watching you, it's not hard to become the world's first celebrity, but like like all celebrities, there is corruption and scandal.
The charming Charles Van Doren is among the first to set the trend, by cheating on a game show, even though he is already a brilliant man to begin with, and has an incredibly intelligent family background.
You think you have this movie figured out, until it throws a curve ball, and everything changes, that is what makes this film so much fun! It touches on issues of trust and morality as well, so you actually get something out of this, besides a great film.
As a huge fan of "The Simpsons," it was a pleasure for me to see Hank Azaria as the corrupt dealer of the game show questions and answers. He too is a great actor, and did well with the screen time that he had.
All-in-all, The Quiz Show goes above and beyond, and is definitely a grand must-see film.
