Review of Quills (2000) by Amanda N — 28 May 2008
Looking to get a point across rather than be historically accurate, Kaufman's "Quills" hits a lot of high-notes. Winslet was well cast, and Caine, Phoenix, and Rush all put forth excellent roles.
The side story of the doctor's pedophiliac affair seems forced, but most everything else in the film seems intelligently intentional. On a side note, I myself was surprised how tame this film was, given the subject matter; it earns it's R rating easily, but it's not as explosively scandolous as some might expect.
