Review of Quigley Down Under (1990) by David S — 17 Sep 2007
Tom Selleck is good as the rugged Quigly but it is Alan Rickman who steal the film as the villainous Elliott Marston. When the film concentrates on the cat-and-mouse game the two play between one another the film excels, yet once it shifts to other familiar grounds of the Western genre it becomes dull, and the face that Laura San Giacomo becomes grating after a while doesn't help.
However, the performances, the Australian locale, and the addition of Aborigines and the way society at the time mistreated them adds a refreshing dimension to this well-worn Western tale.
