Review of ¿Quién diablos es Juliette? (1997) by Sebastian R — 23 Feb 2009
WHO THE HELL IS JULIETTE can come off as tedious once you realize that the whole movie is a nonlinear cluster of pseudo-documentary avant gardism yet if you're attuned to the charms of the film you allow the waves to wash over you like those at the coast of Havana. The photography, the music, and the story is remarkable- it comes to life with the authenticity of the Mexican, American, and Cuban locales. It's dirty, it's gorgeous, it's exotic and tragic.
I haven't seen a collection of unforgettable characters all gathered together in a movie like this in a long time. I'm very happy to have stumbled across this fantastic gem. It's beautiful to see a movie so reckless with it's emotions and so open with sexuality- I was very taken by it.
