Review of Quest for Camelot (1998) by Ben L — 27 Jan 2008
I remember loving this movie as a kid, and while seeing it again I can still watch it and enjoy it, I have to admit that it's terrible. the songs are often a little too pop to work, and the animation is awkward and shoddy, lacking the better-than-the-laws-of-physics comic timing of good cartoons.
(Despite the pop music, the rest of the score has a deliciously magical Celtic flavor, with horns, pipes and tribal drums, that the movie should have stuck closer to.) In the end, occasionally successful moments of action, comedy or emotion make it a watchable blast from the past.
I kind of wish Disney would remake it and do it right, because some of the concepts in this movie are so clever.
