Review of Querelle (1982) by Fiona B — 09 Mar 2009
Brad Davis is hot. This movie is not. He really needs to stop with the drugs. At least he was hot in the other DECENT movie he is best known for, where he found out that he should probably not have anything to do with hashish.
Anyway, this piece of drivel can't even be compared to that film, Midnight Express. I knew from the first weak speech it would be awful. They are on opposite ends of the scale entirely, Midnight Express is superior in every way imaginable and grips you from the very start and doesn't ever let go.
I am probably the only person I know who ever has, or ever will see this - 'Rainer Werner Fassbinder's last film...his masterpiece' YEAH RIGHT. Everything about it is hammy, the acting, the story and the fight scenes but at least it made me appreciate Midnight Express, my favourite film, if possible more than I do already.
106 minutes felt like hours. It seems I could watch the 3-hour-long masterpiece The Green Mile in a shorter time. Had no high expectations after reading about it on websites about Brad Davis, but it made me realise why it was such a flop on release.
