Review of Queen of the Damned (2002) by Emily Jane B — 24 Aug 2011
Pretty cool idea...the plot sounds stupid at first but it clicks into place pretty well. I would've liked to see a sequel but nothing can be done about that. Most of the film is really cool until it hits the concert.
The concert panoramic intro is great, w/ down with the sickness playing as the camera pans. However, everything after the first song seems really rushed...especially the whole queen of the damned thing.
It's the freaking title of the film, yet the queen is barely in the movie. she's just randomly there for no reason whatsoever, and then she's dead, before you know how she even got there. The thing with jessie's family isn't explained very well.
..I just know that they're good vampires who want coexistence, but hell, this is explained during a combat scene, so what the hell?! The ending is cool, but again I'd like to see more. Since this film clocks in at 90 minutes, so there's no reason to rush.
And actually, the progression was cool until the concert, which basically crams the conflict, turning point, and resolution all into 20 minutes! unnecessary, considering how short this film is.
