Review of Queen of the Damned (2002) by Christina B — 07 Sep 2013
I watch this for nostalgic purposes, but goddamn what a fiasco. When I was in my mid teens, this was quality movie watching, here. In hindsight, the plot really didn't merit a feature length film.
What this movie boils down to is LeStat, who has been granted a privileged life, decides that isn't good enough for him, so what he does is return as a rock star who performs in a goth-lite band, for shits and giggles, but his music is not his most unforgivable deed. He agitates his fellow vampires who frankly just want to be left the fuck alone. Who can blame his enemies? Foremost, he awakens Akasha with his noise pollution, unleashing an ancient evil or something upon his vampire brethren. Aaliyah appears as Akasha for about thirty minutes overall, wearing her welcome in about two. She does little more than flail about awkwardly, roll her eyes into the back of her head, flash her teeth, and speak like a robot. She eviscerates or sets fire to anyone who dares looking at her crooked. I'm a heterosexual female, but my description is really only sexy in theory.
So, yeah, nostalgia factor for me. This movie is a hot ass mess.
