Where Queen of Katwe mostly fails as a sports film -- they barely even explain the game of chess -- it succeeds in telling us why it's important and in the beautifully acted drama, especially in relation to her mother and her mentor, played by the supremely gifted Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo.
