Review of Queen of Katwe (2016) by Ted W — 18 Oct 2016

This is a tough review. This was a very interesting story performed by a super talented cast and directed by someone who has no sense of drama, pacing or an eye for composition. This is one of the most poorly directed movies I've seen that wasn't an action movie.

This is an intimate story of deep human emotion presented in a glossy MTV style of quick cuts, pointless zooming and little understanding of the game of chess. I wish this could be remade this year with everyone reprising their roles except the director.

I am familiar with the director's illustrious past work. This just didn't measure up.
