An inspirational though sometimes heavy-handed, wooden, formulaic tale of overcoming the odds and succeeding. The film's fine, heartfelt performances resonate strongly with viewers, though the platitude-laden script and inconsistent pacing sometimes undercut the efforts of the protagonists, pushing them to the brink of cliche.
