Review of Queen Margot (1994) by Kandra A — 07 Nov 2008
I don't deny this film is packed with great actors and moving performances. However, the story rushes us along from one disconnected scene of violence or brutal sex to the next without much explanation of who's doing what to whom and why.
I was well into the longest and most brutal killing spree I've ever seen on film before I realised it was the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre and that Daniel Auteuil's feeble character was the future Henri IV.
There are a few scenes of tenderness, especially one with Margot and La Mole in an empty house on a barren heath, but these moments of respite are far too few.
