Review of Quartier Mozart (1992) by Constance E — 31 Dec 2007
This is definitely a movie that invokes a good deal of nostalgia for Cameroonians who grew up in Yaounde. A "mystical sex farce from Cameroon," the film features a colorful cast of characters comically depicting the sexual politics played out in this popular neighborhood and indeed in the whole country.
Clearly influenced by Spike Lee, Bekolo utilizes clever editing, still photography and dialogue to draw you into the otherwise mundane lives of these characters. Definitely one of my favorite films.
