Review of Quartet (2012) by Mark H — 30 Dec 2012
4 out of 5 stars. The season's biggest surprise and one of the most enjoyable films of the year. Dustin Hoffman, making his directing debut at age 75, gets terrific work from a ultra professional cast.
The music is great and the film is so much better than "Marigold Hotel." Maggie Smith gives a real performance of nuanced depth without her recent resorting to camp comedy. You grin from beginning to end at how much fun it is watching old pros doing outstanding work.
