Review of Quartet (2012) by Gary B — 07 May 2013
Peter's tuppenceworth: The Quartet.
First trip to the flicks this year was a resounding success. And long may it continue (please).
Set in a retirement home for former musicians and opera singers, some critics have given The Quartet a severe kick in the colostomy bag.
But to them I say: Pooh Bah.
What it lacks in the drama/plot department, it more than makes up for in its excellent casting, eccentric and likeable characters, and funny and moving performances (particularly from Tom Courtenay).
All in all, a hugely enjoyable, feel-good, rather English sort of comedy.
So there!
(Oh, and please, please, stay for the credits. That's all I'm saying.).
