Review of Quartet (2012) by Carol C — 29 Jun 2013
Poorly written and ineptly directed by Dustin Hoffman, QUARTET totally squanders a very able cast of British pros. Thank god for Maggie Smith who once again saves the day by playing a genuine human being with real feelings and emotions.
This is not the Dowager Countess from DOWTON ABBEY, but an older woman facing regret and loneliness. Afraid of redemption and happiness, she finally dives in to meet joy. It's a lovely portrayal in a pretty awful and ultimately childish film.
