Review of Quartet (2012) by Seth L — 30 Aug 2013
Personally, I LOVED it. I could watch Maggie Smith every single day of the week & twice on Sundays. She's just a treasure. She looks absolutely GORGEOUS in this film. The character of Jean is so endearing & bitchy all at once.
Pauline Collins is a darling. Her character is just fantastic. The guys are pretty darn funny. The music is beautifully blended w/ the storyline and it just "fits." I may have to see "Rigoletto" at some point, just to hear the real "quartet.
" Not exactly a comedy but it does have its funny moments - and not all by Maggie Smith. What I would've liked to see a big dramatic scene between Maggie's "Jean" & Courtenay's "Reggie" about their relationship.
However, him overhearing Jean tell Cissy why they broke up was pretty darn good too. Completely undramatic & very poignant still.
