Review of Quantum of Solace (2008) by Alasdair B — 04 Feb 2014
I'm probably the only one who really enjoyed this film and it's true. While it is not as good as the reboot Casino Royale (which effectively, successfully and perfectly brought Bond back to its roots), it is still a great ride.
In a way the first official sequel to a Bond film, it picks up right after the previous entry, the film could almost be seen as the conclusion to a two-part story arc. Bond attempts to find those who really forced Vesper Lynd into betraying MI6, while also going after Quantum.
Daniel Craig is still perfect as Bond, still bringing his sense of realism and toughness to the role, while also continuing to add that sense of bleakness to the character. In my opinion Craig is the closeness to the character from the books and is the best actor to depict Bond since Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.
While the film is quick (almost like a bullet), it still has great action, Olga Kurylenko is terrific as the Bond girl and Mathieu Amalric is amazing as the film's chief villain, Dominic Greene. The theme song is also great, as is Marc Forster's direction, as well as the cinematography and David Arnold's frenetic score.
While some things are not entirely cleared up, it still proves that Craig is a good choice for this new version of Bond.
