Review of Pyramid (2014) by Guillaume T — 04 Jun 2015

The Pyramid is a low budget found footage of a supernatural horror film that has an incoherent direction, amateur acting, and no thrills at all. Found Footage movies have been slightly overrated, especially when it is done in the horror genre.

Gregory Levasseur did not over do it like most films since the movie had some idea of archaeologist exploring a discovered new pyramid with their head cameras, and there are other camera shots that is not in the found footage tone.

It just made the direction a little incoherent on what Levasseur is trying to do with the tone. The acting is also not anything special, usually for low budget horror movies that cast new talent. Well this is one of those films that did not have much acting to it nor developed characters.

When characters started getting picked off the screen, there was no impact to their deaths. This movie has that similarities like The Descent, were explorers discovered undiscovered territory. Then, there is some monstrous beast that is picking their characters off.

At least, The Descent has some sort of thrills and a claustrophobia feeling. Another thing, The Pyramid could have used such as have that claustrophobia atmosphere. The movie fails to add any sense of scares or thrills.

We just see characters traveling from one tomb to another, with some quick editing that tries to bring in jump shots but with no effect. The idea of The Pyramid and having that ideas of some Egyptian mystical figure that is behind the stalking and killing its preys.

The story behind it, still does not add up. The Pyramid is a horrible supernatural horror film that is boring, one-dimensional characters, and forgettable.
