Review of Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006) by Nadine G — 13 Apr 2009
Pyaar ke Side Effects is fresh not because of its story but because of its direction. PNC has come a long way from Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi to this, recruiting new directors and and looking for new scripts to make a movie with a message.
The actors are brilliant as usual. Rahul Bose shows his versatility yet again and Ranvir Shorey is hilarious as always. Though I did not appreciate the use of songs again, I loved the quick cuts in the direction, abrupt transitions, and the obvious use of the audience as an audience by Bose's character.
However, the film fails to thoroughly explore why Sid is afraid of marriage. It could have dwelled deeper into his past and what his fears specifically are. Instead it wastes time in songs and incorporating scenes to include specific jokes like the entire conversation about superheroes wearing an underwear outside which is old and played out.
And at the end, you have got to feel sorry for the character of Vivek who seems like a nice guy but gets abandoned over and over again. Then again, from his standpoint and the feel good nature of the film, "its no big deal.
