Review of Putney Swope (1969) by Art S — 25 May 2015
Confronting institutionalized racism, homophobia (through characters who exhibit signs of homosexuality while simultaneously pushing homophonic rhetoric), and nonsensical advertising through absurdist satire and verbal non-sequiturs, "Putney Swope" is consistently hilarious and endlessly quotable.
The narrative meanders and the construction is shaggy, but with lines like "I'm gonna bend your Johnson" and "Wanna get din-din?", its flaws really don't matter all that much.
