Apparently the 10-year gap between movies worked wonders for the franchise because this sequel is far superior to the 2011 film.

Simple but very charismatic, this film could have been just another discreet money making effort, but fortunately they didn't go down that road alone and it's appreciated, because although the whole process is pretty standardized it never fails to be enjoyable and fun, which considering the character and the main audience the film is aimed at; Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a much more complete film than I would have expected and the entertainment with all the talent involved is certainly not lacking.
