Although the screenplay isn't so incredible and the balance between comedy and drama is irregular for a film with an uplifting message such as in this Chris Gardner biopic, The Pursuit of Happyness is essentially great for 2 main reasons.

First, is the message. The Pursuit of Happyness succeeds at conveying the message that you should never give up on the pursuit of your own happiness, regardless of the painful situations the world may end up throwing at you. The upbeat as well as emotional musical score also keeps the story rolling and the fact that it is based on a true story is just Inspirational. It even had some decent comedic moments in there,.

The Second reason is the acting, and whats truly incredible is an excellent performance from Will Smith in the greatest I've seen from him and a good turn from comedy and action roles. He achieves an immaculate level of emotional intensity and portrays Chris Gardner so flawlessly that he himself causes the movie to exceed high above mere melodrama.

In a great supporting role, Jaden Smith manages to hold his own with some good laughs and a cute kiddish charm. He also adds heart-wrenching drama to the story and displays the more talented side of America's youth. His performance outshines the chance for anyone to make accusations of nepotism at The Pursuit if Happyness.

So in e end, The Pursuit of Happyness is a great film that can succeed in reaching people of all ages and classes in society with an important message.
