Review of Purple Rain (1984) by Jonathon W — 22 Dec 2010
I'm a huge Prince fan, but I find this move laughable. No one in this movie can act to save their lives besides Prince's parents (probably because they're the only 'actors') and the scene of Appolonia's bare chest does not spark enough excitement for you to really care about her in the movie. Morris Day and Jerome deliver some laughs, and the part where Prince makes Appollonia skinny dip in the wrong lake was slightly funny, but all in all, the only thing you're getting here is a movie that was only famous because of the music.
There are some things that don't add up, though.
Where did the mom go when the father [put himself in the hospital]? What is the deal with that puppet that Prince is holding after he gets chewed out by his bandmates?
2/5.
