Review of Puppet Master II (1990) by Gus S — 18 Dec 2008
Slightly better than the first only because this one starts right away with plenty of puppet-related action. The first in the series dragged with a long, pointless set-up before the creatures, which are the highlight of this series, even appeared.
Here they are animated more and have a much creepier presence. Not much can be said about the rest of the film, though. There doesn't seem to be a connection at all to the first one. It supposedly takes place in the same hotel but was obviously not shot at the same location because this place looks more like Grandmaâ??s house than a fancy ocean resort.
One major plot hole drags the whole film down: one girl's brother is killed early on by a puppet and the research team has the evidence on tape yet they donâ??t go to the police! Furthermore the girl and the other characters don't seem to care that the man is dead, theyâ??ve all gotten over by morning and act like nothing ever happened.
Shouldnâ??t they at least search the house before they go to sleep to see if there are more creatures? And wonâ??t it look suspicious that they just stuck a body in the freezer and didnâ??t call the police?
