Review of Puppet Master 5 (1994) by Al M — 26 Jan 2013
Puppet Master V is yet another lackluster and head-scratching entry in the Puppet Master series. The film was shot back to back with Puppet Master IV and they were released seperately, but the series took a turn for the worse with the story in the fourth film, to be honest.
These puppets are no longer a threat to anyone anymore. They only kill now to defend others and fight evil. That is so lame I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. Organically it makes sense to go in that direction, being that the following to these films is all about the puppets themselves and not necessarily the story or its content, but that doesn't make it a good idea.
This is another ho-hum entry with very little carnage at the hands of the puppets and a story that just crawls. This was also meant to be the final chapter in the series, but even then, it's still not a good way to close it out.
There's no real finality to it either. Hopefully things will shape up in later films, but I doubt it.
