Review of Punisher: War Zone (2008) by Adam C — 08 Aug 2010
I thought the first Punisher movie was a little too meek but this sequel is anything but meek. It is as violently cartoony and bizarre as possible. When watching it I had to ask myself what the hell were they thinking when they made this.
It is so wildly uneven and it seems like it never knows if it wants to be funny or not. The film really is terrible. The style of the film is way over the top, with visuals that seem more bizarre than interesting.
Then there's the acting, everyone one in the film seems to be doing some unreal New York accents that has more in common with outer space. There are way too many "what's a matter you?" moments with lots of other Italian stereo types.
Even a great actor like Dominic West suffers in the film. Then there comes the violence in the film that is so gruesomely over the top it destroys any serious chance of something being at stake. The violence just beats you down and becomes very dull.
With all the problems the film is so bad its almost worth a watch. It is a mess.
