Review of Punisher: War Zone (2008) by Andrew H — 11 Apr 2014
Surprisingly slow in some parts, but visually spectacular. Ray Stevenson is probably the weakest punisher so far acting wise (even including Dolph Lundgren!) as is the writing. I feel like the filmmakers in charge of this franchise need to reboot, reading as many of the comics again, and make a film that is actually about what the comics are about: It's not about the violence, its not about being a bad ass, it's not even about revenge: its about an emotionally and psychologically broken man, desperately trying to turn a grey world into black and white.
I would love to see somebody give The Punisher a treatment somewhere between Batman Begins, The Bourne Identity and a Michael Mann film like collateral or Heat.
