Review of Punisher: War Zone (2008) by Keith C — 09 Apr 2012
I guess I wasn't fully prepared for what was going to unfold before me. I cringed during the opening violent scene, but then came out of it initially enjoying the film. One thing totally ruined that initial liking.
..this film is viciously violent. It honestly, at least to my memory, has to be the most violent movie I've ever seen. Being super super graphic non-stop put a big time sour on this film. I'm absolutely shocked that this film didn't get an NC-17 rating, the violence is that graphic.
Couple that with not nearly enough storyline and it's not that enjoyable. The film needed a lot more balance...you can be effective without going way over the top...you can develop a stronger story to keep interest.
Having emotional impact would be nice too. Regardless of the rest of the film, I'm sure I would've had a good talk with someone about the film's final shots and the possible subtext if I watched it with another person.
..it probably would've been the only thing worth talking about with regard to the film.
