Review of Puncture (2011) by Thad F — 12 Jan 2012
A film based on the real-life story about two underdog lawyers that take on a case involving a nurse who got HIV from an accidental needle stick while treating a drug addict. As they investigate this they discover that there are solutions that would eliminate these types of accidents and fatalities caused by these accidental needlesticks but price-fixing, kick-backs and corruption in a self-preserving system where profit comes before health and safety drive these solutions away from the hospitals.
Despite a lack of resources they tries take on this David and Golliath case against a pharmaceutical company. Also tells the sad story about how plastic needles are used and re-used 100s of times in 3rd world countries resulting in a massive spread of life threatening diseases.
