Review of Pumpkinhead (1988) by Cameron C — 03 Feb 2010
Stan Winston's directorial debut, and his only directing effort worth mentioning; A Gnome Named Gnorm doesn't actually exist. It's got some good acting, and excellent creature design and effects.
The pacing is good and the score is fitting. What really gets me into this though is the connection between the titular monster and the ones who summoned him, and that Lance Henriksen's Ed realizes what he did was wrong, and agonizes over it for a good portion of the movie.
This gives it some more emotional depth as we see all the characters grapple with what has happened. A surprisingly strong and good effort.
