Review of Pumpkinhead (1988) by Joe A — 09 Oct 2011
One of my favorite Halloween horrors. A spooky and atmospheric backwoods tale of the demon called Pumpkinhead, summoned to exact revenge on a group of cityfolk who accidentally kill a local man's son.
Stan Winston's directorial debut has a very Halloween-ish visual style and his Pumpkinhead is one of modern cinema's coolest creatures. Lance Henrikson gives a strong performance as the vengeful father made to share in the pain of his demonic avenger's victims.
And the supporting cast of unknowns do well enough to evoke first our ire and then out sympathy. A good monster movie and a great monster that deserved far better then the 3 crappy sequels that followed.
