Review of Pumpkinhead (1988) by Ian B — 04 Mar 2008
How this movie is so well-remembered and spawned three sequels is beyond me. Yes, the creature in this movie looks amazing and the effects are pretty good, but that's ALL this movie has going for it.
It's no wonder Stan Winston only directed one movie after this. His direction is completely flat and the dialogue and acting are pretty much a joke. From the first five minutes you know exactly where this movie is going and how it's gonna end.
The few "creature attack" moments were barely enough to hold my attention. I'll say it again...the creature in this movie is amazing! But how about an actual plot, some competent dialogue and characters that aren't completely cardboard.
The only time I showed any emotion watching this movie was when I realized the characters were hiding in the cabin from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Sad, very sad.
