Review of Pumpkinhead (1988) by Kevin R — 02 Feb 2010
You go home and you bury your boy.
A single father raising his son in the country is struck by tragedy one inauspicious day. While tending to his store, a group of frisky teenagers driving dirt bikes kills his son. The father seeks the aid of an old woman to obtain revenge on the reckless teenagers. The old woman conjures a spirit known as Pumpkinhead to obtain revenge on the kids.
?God damn you.?
?He already has.?
Stan Winston, director of A Gnome Named Gnorm, delivers Pumpkinhead. The storyline for this picture is actually worthwhile for the horror genre. The character, specifically the old woman, was fascinating and well presented. The acting was better than anticipated and includes Lance Henriksen, Jeff East, and George Flower.
?Keep away from pumpkinhead unless you?re tired of living.?
For a low budget movie with Lance Henriksen starring to give the film credibility, this film isn?t half bad. The special effects are just okay, but the settings are marvelous and well selected/created. The premise for the film was well thought-out and the horror elements are solid throughout the movie. I recommend seeing this film if you are a fan of the horror genre.
?I can?t tell you what I don?t know.?
Grade: C+.
