Review of Pumpkinhead (1988) by Vanyel H — 13 Apr 2012
An underrated horror flick, that would probably get more respect if it the title monster didn't have such a ridiculous name, although I suppose the silly name is memorable. In any case, the film has great atmosphere and solid special effects, as you would expect from the directorial debut of Stan Winston.
Lance Henrikson give the film more weight than you would expect and Florence Schauffler is very spooky as the backwoods witch he calls upon for revenge on the teenagers who accidentally killed his son.
The main weakness is the very think script. While atmosphere, special effects, and action are all well done, there is not real character development and many of the performances in the film are awfully weak.
However, overall, it's a solid piece of horror.
