Review of Pumpkin (2002) by Ken M — 12 Sep 2005
September 13, 2005.
Just finished watching this movie. My girlfriend loved it and I thought it was pretty lame. I can appreciate the movie and its attempts and its style, but it is inconsistent, boring at times, and doesn't attack any issues straight on. My girlfriend says the movie was making fun of itself, which is why it seemed bad. I don't think it's completely true although I can see parts of it.
Other reviewers who state this is a good, non-cookie cutter movie obviously see it differently than I. This was totally cookie cutter and predictable.
The cinematography is standard with a couple of attempts of "artistic visuals".
The acting is bad. Even Ricci's, sorry to say. I think her lines were just bad.
The music was cool. It fit the mood of the scenes.
The storyline is relatively simple, but they just tried way too hard. Too much redundancy of the same message. (I get it already, move on to the next scene and progress the story, please).
The movie seem to last forever and it kept going when you think it should end.
I recommend this movie only if you can't decide what movie to watch. The first 20 minutes killed me, but it got slightly better after that. (I want to say Kent is a god... how did he survive the car accident?).
