Review of Pumping Iron (1977) by Chris M — 11 May 2010
It's not just a great documentary on the sport of bodybuilding: It's an entertaining "docudrama.".
"Pumping Iron" tells the story of the Mr. Olympia contest. Arnold Schwarzenegger won the contest many times, and this film documents his "last" bodybuilding contest (I put that in quotes because he later returned). It also follows some of his opponents, such as the Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno.
They make Arnold out to be a bad guy in this by making him seem overly confident. He calls his Mother to tell her that he already won before the contest even starts, and tells this to Lou Ferrigno to psyche him out.
"Pumping Iron" is just a very entertaining documentary centered on one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, if not the best: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
