Though made on the tail-end of the 80s teen movie era, 'Pump Up the Volume' is in a different category from the John Hughes movies and raunchy comedies associated with the genre. Christian Slater delivers probably his career-defining performance, which borrows not just a little from his performance as JD in 'Heathers'.
The film also features writing that borders on pretentious but lands mostly on insightful, even today.
