Review of Pulp Fiction (1994) by Adam K — 03 Oct 2014
Doesn't wear its stylization on its sleeve as hard as later Tarantino movies. I feel like a kind of blunt viewer for saying so, but while it was largely fun on a minute to minute basis, it never reached the rip-roaring energy of Inglorious Basterds or Kill Bill.
And while there are plenty of memorable and great character moments and the overall plotting is masterfully elegant and effective, it doesn't hang together into a story so much as a pastiche. Enjoyable but doesn't hit home as hard as I'd kind of expected.
Too much of it feels like it's trying too hard to be cool?
