Review of Pulp (1972) by Jay N — 23 Nov 2009
Just one year after the brilliantly vicious Get Carter, Michael Caine and director Mike Hodges teamed up once again for this quirky wise arse comedy. Caine plays a pulp fiction writer hired by Mickey Rooneyâ??s nutjob fading actor to ghost write his autobiography.
Somewhere in between the odd characters and Caineâ??s bone dry narration lurks a killer and a mystery. Caine is perfectly snooty in the role and I dug the voiceovers, but I never really cared about the riddle and found myself drifting by the end of the flick.
If yer a Caine enthusiast then I highly recommend, but if yer lookinâ?? for a tough Mike Hodges crime flick rent Get Carter or Iâ??ll Sleep When Iâ??m Dead. VF.
