Review of PTU (2003) by Gabriel C — 15 Aug 2007
This owes its central plot point to Kurosawa's Stray Dog, but as a hard-boiled police procedural it can't be beat. Its comic scenes are gut-wrenchingly funny, and well thought-out. There's an extended sequence that depends on cell phone ring tones early on, for example, and just when you think it can't get any better, the real action kicks in.
I don't know why the English title is so ridiculous (PTU: Into the Perilous Night? What, does it star Sarah Michelle Gellar now?) but that's the only bad thing about this movie.
