Review of Psycho III (1986) by Eytan D — 04 Apr 2013
"Psycho III" has several problems. It's got a few 80's horror movie cliches, an annoying reporter getting on Norman's case, a naive heroine, and some pretty cheesy kills. However, deep inside it, there is still a definite trace of what made the first sequel great.
The movie works mainly because of one reason, and that's another fantastic performance from Anthony Perkins, who also directs the film. There is a benefit to having Perkins direct. He knows Norman Bates better than his own mother might know him.
The psychological drama going on in Norman's brain still takes center stage here. It also helps that Perkins actually has a good visual eye, adding a nifty atmosphere to what's already been a moody setpiece for 26 years.
Kill me, but I still liked "Psycho III" despite its flaws.
