Phoenix, Arizona. Friday, December the Eleventh. Two forty-three P.M.

Funny how something so small and simple as written text in a straight-forward font can create a sense of curiosity. By telling the audience details that are un mistakingly mundane, Hitchcock immediately implants the questions that matter: âWho are there two people? What are their stories?â?

A master of suspense, Hitchcock slowly opens up the blinds while the answers trickle out in what is a behemoth of a motion picture. The shower scene, the music, the black and white, all of these aspects make Psycho a most memorable film, and indeed the one that ultimately defined Hitchcock himself.

Psycho is a special film, one that effectively bent the rules and in a way, gave Hollywood directors an artistic freedom for decades to come.

In 2012 it remains, not an empty remnant of the past, but an important genre defining film.

This review of Psycho (2007) was written by on 31 Oct 2012.
